Welcome to the Collaroy Plateau Weather Sentinel Map,

This map show's data collected by Geoscience Australia from the MODIS and AVHRR instrumentation. The main function is to display hotspots caused by fire.
MODIS (or Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) is a key instrument aboard the Terra (EOS AM) and Aqua (EO PM) satellites.
The Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) is a space-borne sensor embarked on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) family of polar orbiting platforms (POES).

The data is not verified and should be treated as a guide only, though I appreciate Geosciences Australia for making it easily accesible to the public and web community.

Thankfully the first map; doesn't show many hotspots. It covers Latitude -31° thru -35° & Longitude 149° thru 153°, so covers quite alot of the NSW coast. For reference you can see Botany Bay on Lat34°, with Sydney Harbour just above that. Long Reef is an small sharp bump around Lat-33.7° Hawkesbury River sit just under Lat-33.5°.

The second map is australia wide, showing data from the last 72Hrs.
